(September 22, 2016) The City of Frisco will spray for mosquitoes September 24 and 25 after receiving confirmation four mosquito pools tested ‘positive’ for West Nile virus (WNV).

"Even though the fall season begins this week, it's important to remember that if warmer weather persists, mosquito season continues," said Julie Stallcup, Environmental Health Supervisor.

"Our best advice is for people to continue to practice personal protection."

Today’s confirmations bring the number of ‘positive’ mosquito pools in Frisco this summer to 50. No human cases are confirmed here.

The City of Frisco supports four precautionary habits promoted by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

1. Use approved insect repellents: Use repellent every time you go outside. Approved repellents contain DEET, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus. Follow label instructions.
2. Drain standing water: Drain water that collects in cans, tires, buckets, rain gutters, and saucers under potted plants. Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water.3. Wear long sleeves, pants at dawn and dusk (when mosquitoes are most active).
4. Use air conditioning: Make sure doors and windows are screened – and those screens are intact.

In accordance with its plan, Frisco began testing for mosquitoes May 1.
