  1. Investigating Prescription Drug Crimes ***CANCELLED***

    March 14, 2017, 8:00 AM - March 15, 2017, 5:00 PM @ Frisco Police Department

Prescription drug dealing has surpassed street drug dealing as the No. 1 drug problem in our country. The illicit use of prescription drugs kills one American every 25 minutes. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2011 declared the abuse of prescription drugs an epidemic. More than five years later, little progress has been made in curbing the problem. To effectively and efficiently combat it, criminal justice professionals must be able to recognize and understand how prescription painkillers and other controlled substances are legitimately used, how they are abused and how the drugs ultimately reach the abuser. Likewise, those in law enforcement and prosecution must know how to find the resources to fight the problem, the laws at their disposal and the legal and medical burdens of proof. This course will provide criminal justice professionals with the tools to effectively investigate and successfully prosecute prescription drug crimes.
