  1. Public Art Opening at Northeast Community Park

    February 8, 2018, 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM @ Northeast Community Park

The City of Frisco invites the public to celebrate its newest piece of public art, 'Beacon' by artist Pete Beeman. Portland-based artist Pete Beeman has designed a 22-foot-tall kinetic sculpture for Northeast Community Park. Visitors will interact with the sculpture by operating a hand crank on its base. As it is turned, the internal mechanics activate the red, orange and yellow wing-like forms at the top. The movement will be quite striking from all angles, and be evocative of a “beacon or torch” that adds a dash of color to the park. Beeman has created public art throughout the United States, and a series of artworks in public spaces in Taiwan. His other recent commissions include artworks in Palo Alto, California and Portland, Oregon. Beeman also teaches at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
