(April 20, 2011) Help us spruce up Frisco! The annual citywide clean up event, Clean It and Green It, happens Saturday morning, April 30. This year volunteers will not only clean up litter, but also mark storm drains with educational tiles about the city’s storm water program.
Check in for day-of registration will be from 8:15 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. in the IKEA parking lot, located at 7171 IKEA Dr. Clean-up will last from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. You will be assigned an area of the city to clean if you or your group does not request a designated area to clean.
All volunteers will be registered for raffle prizes, receive a green gift, t-shirt and a free lunch from IKEA at 11:15 a.m. There will be lots of fun and environmental education going on all morning.
You can register the day of the event, or you can pre-register online at FriscoTexas.gov/volunteer, and click on My Volunteer Page, or call 972-292-5078. Homeowner Associations, schools, churches and other community groups are encouraged to preregister to receive clean up equipment in advance. Students should contact their campus Green Team.
The spring Chunk Your Junk event will also happen at IKEA on April 30, from 8 a.m. until noon. It is a great opportunity to get rid of all the unwanted items from closets and other corners of your home following spring cleaning.
Hundreds are expected to show up for ‘Chunk Your Junk’, so get there early. The drop-off hours are from 8 a.m. to noon; however, city staff will close the line at 11:30 a.m. to make sure everyone who has waited in line gets through. Entry will be from westbound IKEA Drive only. All other entries to the IKEA parking lot will be closed.
See the list below for items that can be brought for safe disposal, recycling or donation. To reduce idling time, the items are listed in the order which they can be unloaded in the IKEA parking lot.
