Lanes of SH 121 service road reopened after fuel cleanup

[UPDATE 12:15 p.m.: All lanes are now open after fuel cleanup.]

(May 15, 2014) Two lanes of the westbound service road for Sam Rayburn Tollway (SH 121), between Custer and Independence, are shut down temporarily as crews work to clean up fuel spilled in a motor vehicle accident.

Frisco and Plano fire crews and a Frisco HAZMAT team responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident about 8 a.m. this morning. A Frisco firefighter was taken to Centennial Medical Center after showing signs of over-exertion. He is being monitored and is listed in stable condition at this time.

The driver of the truck involved in the accident also was transported to Centennial with what appeared to be minor injuries.

The heavy-duty truck was carrying used motor oil, and about 50 gallons of that fuel leaked out. Most of the leak occurred in the grassy median. Environmental cleanup crews are working at the scene. The lanes are expected to be closed until at least noon.
