Multiple Road Closures Planned July 2 - July 4 for Frisco Freedom Fest

(July 2, 2012)  Frisco Freedom Fest happening on Wednesday, July 4, will include a festival in Frisco Square and a soccer game at FC Dallas Stadium followed by a fireworks show.  These events will require the closure of several streets in Frisco Square on July 2 and 3, with additional road closures on the day of the event, July 4.  The end of the fireworks show will create heavy traffic loads that will necessitate the temporary closure of some major roadways around Frisco Square and FC Dallas Stadium to help facilitate traffic leaving the area.  The successive roadway closures are described below and can be viewed at:
Frisco FREEDOM FEST road closure map.  Also view EVENT PARKING MAP.

Starting 5pm July 2 & continuing July 3 - July 4:
Many of the streets around the George A. Purefoy Municipal Center will be closed starting at 5 p.m. on Monday, July 2, and will remain closed Tuesday, July 3 and Wednesday, July 4.  Frisco Square Boulevard will be closed between Church Street and Frisco Street, which includes the plaza in front of City Hall and Frisco Public Library.  In addition, Library Street will be closed between Page Street and Frisco Square Blvd.  Most streets approaching City Hall and the Library will remain open during business hours, but visitors will not be able to enter the plaza from the east side.  In addition, most surface parking spaces around the building will be closed so visitors will have to park in the free parking garage behind the building.   The Library’s book drop drive-through lane will also remain open behind the building.

The remaining portion of the plaza in front of the George A. Purefoy Municipal Center will be closed at 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3.  At that time, it will not be possible to approach the building from the north.  The Library’s book drop drive-through lane will remain open behind the building, but it can only be reached by using Page Street from the east or the west.

July 4 Road Closures:
Frisco Public Library will be closed on Wednesday, July 4, but the book drop drive-through lane behind the building will be accessible to residents who approach the building on Page Street.

Coleman Boulevard will be closed starting at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 4, and will remain closed for the rest of the day.  At that time, Frisco Square residents and customers will need to use the west and east Frisco Square parking lots to access the area.  Each parking lot will only be accessible from one driveway on eastbound Main Street.  Westbound motorists can make a u-turn at World Cup Way in order to access these driveways.

Frisco Street will be closed between Main Street and Technology Drive from about 9:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. due to the fireworks show.  After the fireworks, northbound Frisco Street will reopen, but southbound Frisco Street will remain closed until about midnight.

Eastbound Main Street and eastbound Cotton Gin Road -- between Legacy Drive and Dallas Parkway -- will be closed at 10 p.m. in order to move traffic more efficiently out of FC Dallas Stadium and Frisco Square following the festival and fireworks.  The southbound exit ramp from the Dallas North Tollway to Cotton Gin Road will be closed at the same time.  Both roads and the exit ramp should be open again by around midnight.  During this closure, traffic heading east on Main Street should use Legacy Drive to reach either Eldorado Parkway or Lebanon Road to continue eastward.  Frisco Square can be reached by turning onto Main Street from northbound or southbound Dallas Parkway.

To minimize congestion after the fireworks, exit routes from FC Dallas Stadium and Frisco Square will be limited in order to reduce the points where traffic flows try to cross each other.
View the map showing the exit routes.

Depending on where they park, Frisco Freedom Fest visitors will be directed onto eastbound or westbound Main Street or north to Eldorado Parkway when they leave the Frisco Square/FC Dallas Stadium area and then should follow the signs to reach the Dallas North Tollway or Preston Road.

Even with these procedures in place, motorists should be prepared for the extra time it will take to exit the area since so many people will be leaving at the same time after the fireworks show.
