(March 11, 2011) Traffic will be switched in all four directions at the intersection of Legacy Drive and Lebanon Road starting at 9:00 a.m. Monday, March 14 (weather permitting). Traffic will be shifted onto one half of both roads so that the southeast quadrant of the intersection can be reconstructed. The details of the traffic switch are described below.
While the traffic switch is being implemented on March 14, traffic will be stopped intermittently in all four directions and significant delays are expected at the intersection. If possible, motorists are encouraged to avoid using this intersection on Monday after 9:00 a.m. and to seek an alternate route.
Once the traffic switch is in place, the intersection will be reduced to one through lane in each direction continuously until September 2011 as each phase of the project will reconstruct a different quadrant of the intersection. With fewer lanes available to move traffic through the intersection, increased delays are inevitable during construction. Commuter traffic that normally uses this intersection can use an alternate route that is a longer distance but may take less time, such as using Main Street and Dallas Parkway or FM 423 and SH 121 to go around the intersection.
Motorists are urged to use caution approaching the intersection of Legacy Drive and Lebanon Road as people become accustomed to the new traffic patterns within the shifted lanes.
Traffic Switch Details:
Northbound traffic on Legacy Drive will be shifted to the west side of the road as it passes through the intersection with Lebanon Road. This will reduce north and southbound Legacy Drive to one lane in each direction for about 800 feet north and south of the intersection.
Eastbound traffic on Lebanon Road will be shifted to the north side of the road as it passes through the intersection with Legacy Drive. This will reduce east and westbound Lebanon Road to one lane in each direction for about 800 feet east and west of the intersection. On the west side of the intersection, eastbound traffic will shift to the north side of the median at the intersection of Lebanon Road and Todd Drive. As a result, southbound traffic on Todd Drive will not be able to turn left onto Lebanon Road, and eastbound traffic on Lebanon Road will not be able to turn left onto Todd Drive. As a result, residents of the Estates on Legacy Drive neighborhood who normally use Todd Drive may need to plan a different route in and out of the neighborhood during construction.
This road closure is part of the project that is reconstructing the intersection of Legacy Drive and Lebanon Road in order to remove the bump in the intersection and to build additional through lanes and turn lanes. Once the project is complete, all four directions of the intersection will have two left-turn lanes, three through lanes, and a right-turn lane.
