(August 29, 2013) Traffic patterns will be modified at the intersection of Parkwood Boulevard and Stonebrook Parkway on Friday, August 30, as part of the Stonebrook Parkway Improvement Project. Currently, both directions of traffic on Parkwood share the east half of the road as they pass through the intersection. Starting at 10 a.m. tomorrow, traffic on Parkwood will shift so that both directions of traffic will share the west half of the road as they pass through the intersection.
Northbound motorists on Parkwood should pay special attention to the temporary transitions from one side of the median to the other and travel through them slowly. All motorists at the intersection should pay attention to the new location of stop lines. Due to this configuration, north and southbound Parkwood will continue to operate without a dedicated left-turn lane; therefore, the traffic signal will continue to operate in the same way. Motorists are urged to use caution in the construction zone as people become accustomed to the new traffic patterns at the intersection.
Frisco High School Traffic
Due to the fact that northbound Parkwood Boulevard does not have a dedicated left-turn lane onto Stonebrook Parkway during this phase of construction, motorists using northbound Parkwood to drive to Frisco High School have been experiencing delay. To avoid this delay, high school motorists that are headed for the high school driveway located on Stonebrook are urged to use northbound Dallas Parkway as an alternate route to reach Stonebrook. By reducing the number of cars trying to make this northbound left-turn movement, it will also reduce the delay for the other traffic that remains on Parkwood.
It should not be necessary for motorists on southbound Parkwood to take an alternate route because they will have a new right-turn lane at the intersection with Stonebrook next week. This new turn lane should reduce the delay for all traffic on southbound Parkwood at Stonebrook.
This is part of the Stonebrook Parkway Improvement Project between Preston Road and the Dallas North Tollway that will widen the road to a six-lane, divided roadway and includes the extension of an underground water line. Phase 1 added dual left-turn lanes on westbound Rolater Road at Preston Road and is now complete. Phase 2 encompassed the work between Parkwood Boulevard and Preston Road, which will be completed in October 2013. Phase 3 encompasses the work between Dallas Parkway and Parkwood Boulevard, which will be completed by early 2014. Phase 3-B will repave the intersection of Stonebrook Parkway and Parkwood Boulevard and is expected to be completed by the end of 2013, at which time traffic will be able to use both sides of Stonebrook Parkway. Phase 4 will add dual left-turn lanes and a right-turn lane on eastbound Stonebrook Parkway at Dallas Parkway. Phase 4 is expected to start in late 2013 and be completed in mid 2014.
