(October 21, 2013) As part of the Texas Department of Transportation’s widening project, traffic patterns on Main Street will be modified this week between Preston Road and Custer Road. Traffic on Main Street will be shifted into different lanes and two residential streets will be closed at Main Street for nine months. The details of each road closure are described below:
Traffic Switch on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 22-23
Traffic on Main Street will be shifted into different lanes between Preston Road and Custer Road on Tuesday and Wednesday, October 22 and 23. All traffic lanes will be shifted about 10 feet to the north to make room for construction activity on the south side of the road. Westbound traffic will be shifted into its new lane on Tuesday, October 22, and eastbound traffic will shifted into its new lane on Wednesday, October 23. Motorists should expect intermittent delays on Main Street between Preston Road and Custer Road as the traffic switch is being made each day.
After the traffic shift, motorists should pay special attention to the new location of turn lanes and be aware that some of them will be temporarily eliminated during this phase of construction. At the intersection of Main Street and Preston Road, westbound Main Street will no longer have a right-turn lane, and eastbound Main Street will only have one through lane to cross Preston Road. Also, eastbound Main Street will no longer have a right-turn lane at Hillcrest Road. Motorists are urged to use caution in the construction zone as people become accustomed to the new traffic patterns.
Taft Powell Road Closed Starting Wednesday, October 23
Taft Powell Road will be closed for nine months between Main Street and Gregory Lane starting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, October 23. During this closure, traffic that would normally use Taft Powell Road should use Huntington Road and Hillcrest Road as an alternate route to reach Main Street. Detour signs will be posted. Taft Powell Road is expected to reopen by the end of July 2014.
Pinebridge Drive Closed Starting Thursday, October 24
Pinebridge Drive will be closed for nine months between Main Street and Stanmere Drive starting at 9 a.m. on Thursday, October 24. During this closure, Cypress Creek residents who would normally use Pinebridge Drive should use Lynhurst Drive and Coit Road as an alternate route to reach Main Street. Detour signs will be posted. Traffic headed to Bacchus Community Park will need to use the park’s main entrance further east on Main Street or the secondary entrance on Independence Parkway. Pinebridge Drive is expected to reopen by the end of July 2014.
