(November 18, 2013) Traffic will be switched in two different ways on Stonebrook Parkway between Dallas Parkway and Preston Road on Tuesday, November 19. This will change traffic patterns at the intersection of Stonebrook Parkway and Parkwood Boulevard and it will shift traffic so that it will flow on opposite sides of the median between Parkwood Boulevard and Preston Road. The specifics of each switch are described below:
Intersection of Stonebrook Parkway & Parkwood Boulevard
Currently, both directions of traffic on Stonebrook Parkway share the south half of the road as they pass through the intersection. Starting tomorrow after 9:00 a.m., traffic on Stonebrook Parkway will be shifted so that both directions of traffic will share the north half of the road as they pass through the intersection. Eastbound motorists on Stonebrook Parkway should pay special attention to the temporary transitions from one side of the median to the other and travel through them slowly. Eastbound traffic will be shifted to the north side of the median in front of Frisco High School and, after passing through the intersection with Parkwood Boulevard, will then shift back to the south side of the median about 500 feet east of Parkwood.
All motorists at the intersection should pay attention to the new location of stop lines. Due to this configuration, north and southbound Parkwood will continue to operate without a dedicated left-turn lane; therefore, the traffic signal will continue to operate in the same way. Motorists are urged to use caution in the construction zone as people become accustomed to the new traffic patterns at the intersection.
Stonebrook Parkway between Parkwood Boulevard and Preston Road
Starting midday tomorrow, traffic on Stonebrook Parkway will be switched so that east and westbound traffic will flow on opposite sides of the median between Parkwood Boulevard and Preston Road. Westbound traffic will be shifted so that it stays on the north side of the median all the way from Preston Road to Dallas Parkway. Due to the intersection shift described above, eastbound traffic will be on the north side of the median as it passes through the Parkwood Boulevard intersection but it will then shift back to the south side of the median about 500 feet east of Parkwood.
Motorists are urged to use caution in the area during the traffic switch and to watch for flaggers. After the switch, motorists turning onto Stonebrook Parkway from a side street or a driveway should pay special attention to the new location of stop lines and medians.
This is part of the Stonebrook Parkway Improvement Project between Preston Road and the Dallas North Tollway that will widen the road to a six-lane, divided roadway and includes the extension of an underground water line. Phase 1 added dual left-turn lanes on westbound Rolater Road at Preston Road and is now complete. Phase 2 encompassed the work between Parkwood Boulevard and Preston Road, which will be completed by the end of 2013. Phase 3 encompasses the work between Dallas Parkway and Parkwood Boulevard, which will be completed by early 2014. Phase 4 will add dual left-turn lanes and a right-turn lane on eastbound Stonebrook Parkway at Dallas Parkway. Phase 4 is expected to start in late 2013 and be completed in mid 2014. Information about the project can be found online at FriscoTexas.gov/Stonebrook.
