The Frisco Police Department offers students the opportunity to experience law enforcement first-hand as part of an annual Junior Police Academy (JPA) summer camp program. JPA cadets will learn the basic funcitons of a police department and have the opportunity to practice what they learn in practical exercises. The summer academy runs for eight weeks. Each cadet will be placed into a one week academy class on 'first come, first serve' basis. Cadets will meet members of the Frisco Police Special Operations unit (SWAT), 911 operators, crime scene investigators, jailers, and officers who work in the traffic division. JPA transforms the traditional role of the police officer into one of mentor and friend, while encouraging youth to be partners in building a safer community.
JPA is open to students who live in Frisco or attend Frisco ISD. Eligible cadets must be entering 7th or 8th grades. Applications will be considered in order completed paperwork is received and reviewed. Application requirements include parental permission and medical release forms. Classes will be held at Cobb Middle School, 9400 Teel Pkwy in Frisco. Classes run Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., with the exception of Fridays when classes end at noon. JPA is free.
***JPA Applications can be submitted to the SRO at your child's school. If your child does not attend an FISD school, please turn in your application at the Frisco Police Department.***
